What is ICONET?

ICONET is a 30 month project and will significantly extend the state of the art research and development around the Physical Internet (PI) concept in pursuit of a new networked architecture for interconnected logistics hubs by focusing on the following:

  • Research, under the PI umbrella, into new business models that underpin intermodal transport, warehousing and ecommerce fulfilment
  • Development of an experimental ICT proof of concept (PoC) Infrastructure Platform to support the simulation and testing of the PI concepts
  • Development of representative PI solutions for each of the three Focus Areas for the corresponding Living Labs.

ICONET Newsletter February 2021

This issue includes a description of the final ICONET General Assembly. The team reflected on the picture that the research has painted of a Physical Internet world, and the far-reaching implications of that for investors in both cloud-and-edge-based service providers, logistics service providers, regulators, and service users alike.

ICONET Launches a Short Video

The ICONET project has released a short video that explains and demonstrates how a pan-EU connected logistics network can transform logistics.  The video aims to widen understanding of the benefits of a Physical Internet enabled logistics network and show how the technology and use cases are being tested.
