Smart PI Containers – Tracking and Reporting as a Service

The aim of this report is to track the evolutions from the development of the IoT components already introduced within the report entitled “Smart PI Containers – Tracking & Reporting as a Service ” and enable the implementation of the architecture described within the report entitled “Requirements and high-level specifications for IoT-based
smart PI containers”. The main outcome of this report is driven by the results coming from the definition of the PI Node components and interactions. In this scenario, the positioning of the IoT environment will be defined, toward the realisation of IoT Cloud Service. This means that all IoT Cloud Service specifications and interactions with the rest of the PI environment are defined, considering the realisation of secure, interoperable and ad-hoc RESTful interfaces.
The interoperability functionalities are further strengthened, providing details regarding the interaction with the IoT Cloud Platform and guidelines derived from the definition of the PI Node components and functionalities. Particularly, an entire set of JSON data-models has been described to allow the integration of the PI Node. Moreover, the path to follow for the semantic interoperability within the IoT environment is suggested, considering a standardised lightweight ontology, thought to be integrated within battery powered IoT devices.
